Frenzy Financial Sense

The Financial Aid Office is hosting some great workshops starting Spring 2009 and we're all invited to come.

Here are some of the February FAFSA Frenzy Workshops:

• Every Tuesday from 1-2pm in RAS 301 and every Wednesday at 6pm at TVCC: Financial aid 101 & scholarship information
• Every Thursday from 1-2pm in RAS 301: Complete your FAFSA

And they'll have a table set up every weekday from 2-4pm at the Wood Center.

Starting in March, they're hosting the Financial Sense Workshops every Thursday from 1-2pm with the location TBA:

March 5: Budgeting your money

March 19: Understanding credit

March 26: Student loans-everything you need to know

April 9: FAFSA follow-up

April 16: Digging for gold: researching scholarships

April 23: Learn to save

April 30: Repaying your student loans

Budget Concerns and Salary Effects Part II

Look further down at the original posting regarding the proposed grid increase....

Juella's request was rejected and the administration went forward with a 4.5% grid increase.

This is a real budget bummer.

Kid Stuff

The Chancellor has annually committed $24K to the Bunnell House which leaves TVC providing a subsidy of $100K. To cut costs, the Bunnell House (BH) axed their admin. assistant position, leaving the TVC Director's Office and the BH Director with these additional duties.

The BH's goal is to receive accreditation from the National Association Education of Young Children which means the facility must hold itself to a higher level of quality and standards.

The University Women's Association made a donation of $1,000 to the BH. But they need lots more money, and plan to advertise their need for funding, targeting alumni.

There's been some major hoopla and uproar in the community about the disappearance of the Certified Public Manager program. There wasn't enough interest nor support and the curriculum was outdated.

So they ushered in a new & improved program, the TVC Essential Supervisor Program, and you can find out more here.

And remember your tuition waiver covers up to 3 UA approved non-credit courses a semester.

In General

HR is continuing to restructure, redesign and instead of having specialists: like one for retirement, one for health insurance, one for leave benefits, etc., they're looking at having generalists.

So instead of seeing mutliple HR consultants for your various needs, you will soon have one-stop shopping. Their goal for you when calling or visiting their office is for you to deal with a singular consultant who's able to answer all your questions and meet all your needs.

They want to hire more consultants, too. They're understaffed according to industry standards and currently have 1 HR rep. per 130 people and would like to hire up to 1 HR rep. per 100 people.

A New Program's in Town

And that is a 12 credit graduate certificate in Statistics, most likely available Fall 2009. Board of Regents is likely to approve at their next meeting.
